About Bruce Bickford
Bruce Bickford (1947-2019) was a self-taught American artist, animator and filmmaker who produced a prodigious amount of visionary work over nearly half a century. Born in Seattle, Bickford is widely considered a pioneer and master of clay animation, creating uniquely bizarre narratives in perpetually morphing plasticine. He gained a fervent cult following in the 1970s for his animations featured extensively in the films of Frank Zappa, including Baby Snakes (1979) and The Amazing Mr. Bickford (1987). His most highly regarded piece, the award-winning 1988 feature Prometheus' Garden, and his final film, CAS'L' (2015), showcase his singular artistic vision. He was also the subject of the award-winning documentary Monster Road (2004) by Brett Ingram.
